MFH: 22 November

Today is the 138th anniversary of the marriage of my great-great-grandparents, Carolina Herbst and John Konrad Ruppel. Carolina and John were married 22 November 1870 in Noble County, Ohio (probably at or near Fulda).

Carolina was born 08 March 1849 in Fulda, Monroe, Ohio, USA, the youngest daughter (0f three) and youngest child (of four) of Andrew and Beata Ada Herbst. John was born 15 December 1846 in Fulda, Monroe, Ohio, USA, the eldest son (of seven) and eldest child (of twelve) of Peter and Margaret (Clay) Ruppel. (Noble County was created in 1851. Before that date Fulda was in Monroe County.) Carolina and John had nine children, six daughters and three sons. Carolina died 01 February 1903 at Hohman, Ludlow Township, Washington County, Ohio, USA. John re-married on 09 May 1905 in Hohman, Ohio to Lousetta (Burkhart) Nau. John and Lousetta had one daughter. John died 27 February 1912 at Hohman, Ludlow Township, Washington County, Ohio, USA. John and Carolina are buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Ludlow Township, Washington County, Ohio, USA.

The Ruppel farm at Hohman, Ludlow Township, Washington County, Ohio, USA, 1904. In 1955, the farm was acquired by the federal government through an eminent domain lawsuit and incorporated into the Wayne National Forest. Pictured left to right are Margaret R. Ruppel (1891-1905), John Konrad Ruppel (1846-1912), Helena Loretta Ruppel (1884-1955), and Minnie L. Ruppel (1887-1975). The framed portrait is of John Konrad and Carolina (Herbst) Ruppel and today hangs in my home.
